Leadership Contests
2014
Congratulations to Marley Tucker for placing 2nd place at regionals in the Extemporaneous Speaking contest, which she will later compete at States in March. Gaige Tucker earned a gold award in Job Interview at districts. Austin Blaine earned a silver award in Greenhand Public Speaking at districts. Last but not least Madi Heath earned a gold award at districts, as well as a third place in regionals in Prepared Public Speaking.
2013
This year we only had one person compete at states. Ian Darling won second place at both districts and regionals in extemporaneous public speaking. He then went on and competed at states earning a silver ranking and placing fourth. Madi Heath competed in prepared public speaking making it to regionals earning a silver ranking and placing third. Her topic was " Oil Exploration; Whose right is it?"Our Ag issue team of Justin Gruden, Nathan Heath, Miranda Kush, Jennifer McNamara competed at districts placing 3rd and earning a gold ranking. Their topic was Oil Exploration. Also Gage Tucker and Grace Shaw competed in job interview. Gage placed 5th earning a bronze ranking and Grace placed 12th earning a bronze ranking. Also Riley Burgess competed in extemporaneous public speaking and placed 11th earning a bronze ranking.
2012
In 2012 was a very successful year for leadership contest. The Chapter had 1 Ag Issues team and 4 individuals compete in different leadership contest. We had the Ag Issues team of Nathan Heath, Miranda Kush, Karis Kanitz, Jake Truitt, Jeramia Schimmt, and Andrew Stuart. The team spoke about high fructose corn syrup. They placed 2nd at districts and at regionals. They competed at states and received 12th place earning a bronze ranking.
The individuals that competed were Andrew Kanitz, Ian Darling, Madison Heath, and Riley Burgess. Andrew competed in Job Interview. He placed 1st at districts and 2nd at regionals. He competed at States receiving 12th place earning a silver ranking. Madison Heath competed in greenhand public speaking. Her speech topic was horse slaughter. Madison placed 1st at districts and at regionals. She competed at states and received 4th place earning a gold ranking. Ian Darling competed in prepared public speaking. His speech topic was ending world hunger. He received 3rd place earning a gold ranking. Riley Burgess competed in greenhand public speaking. Her speech topic was making medicine from goats milk. She received 3rd place at regionals earning a silver ranking.
Discussion Meet 2012
The discussion meet took place Wednesday November 7th. We sent two people to that contest, Ian Darling and Madison Heath. Both contestants made it all the way to the final round, and they BOTH made it to states. The state Competition was Tuesday November 27th. At the competition both of our contestants made it to the final round! Senior Ian Darling received 2nd place and, sophomore Madison Heath received 5th place at states! We are extremely proud of both contestants for all their hard work and dedication to this competition.
Chicken Contest 2012
The Milan FFA chapter finished chicken contest! The chicken contest runs the whole month of October. In the chicken contest teams of 5-7 people receive 25 chicks and have to raise them the whole month. The main objective is to raise the biggest bis while tuning in accurate and precise records. The records are for example how much food they ate, how many pounds did the birds gain each week etc. Then at the end of the month we take 5 chickens to be judge. We had a total number of 6 teams, but we had three teams place.
